Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Take your 9×9-inch baking dish and lightly grease it with butter or a baking spray.
  2. In a medium bowl, gently toss together the blackberries, ¾ cup of granulated sugar, and lemon juice. Allow this mixture to sit for about 10 minutes.
  3. While the blackberries are marinating, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and ¾ cup of sugar in another bowl.
  4. Pour the milk and vanilla extract into the dry mixture and stir until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
  5. Take the melted butter and pour it into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly across the bottom. Carefully pour the batter over the melted butter.
  6. Using a spoon, gently spoon the blackberry mixture (including the juices) over the batter.
