Description

Introducing the Crockpot Cabbage Roll Casserole, a delightful blend of flavors and textures that will warm your heart and satisfy your cravings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large head of cabbage (green or savoy)
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked rice (brown rice optional)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (15 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 cups shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by heating your skillet over medium heat. Add in the ground beef or turkey. Sizzling sounds will greet you as you brown the meat for about 5-7 minutes, ensuring it’s cooked through. Don’t forget to drain any excess fat to keep your casserole light and flavorful.
  2. Next up is infusing your kitchen with delightful aromas! In the same skillet, toss in your chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Grab a large mixing bowl and incorporate your browned meat with the sautéed onion and garlic. Add in your uncooked rice, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with dried oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix until well-blended.
  4. Start by placing half of the chopped cabbage at the bottom of your crockpot. Spoon half of the meat mixture over the cabbage evenly. Repeat with another layer of cabbage followed by the rest of the meat mixture.
  5. Cover your crockpot with its lid, and set it to low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  6. If gooey cheese is your thing, sprinkle shredded cheese over the top for the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Notes

Don’t rush the meat-browning process; taking your time enhances the dish’s overall flavor.
