Description
This Copycat Bang Bang Tofu recipe is a perfect fusion of textures and tastes that will leave your taste buds craving more!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 block firm tofu, drained and pressed
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 1 tbsp Sriracha sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp honey or agave syrup
- 1 green onion, thinly sliced
- Sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by cutting the block of firm tofu into even cubes, making sure they are roughly an inch in size for consistent cooking. Once cut, take each cube and coat it thoroughly in cornstarch. This step is essential for achieving that crispy exterior we all love! The cornstarch creates a great seal that locks in moisture and allows for a fantastic crunch when fried.
- Next, heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. You want the oil hot enough that it sizzles when you add the tofu, but not so hot that it burns. Once the oil is ready, gently place the tofu cubes into the hot oil, being cautious not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them in batches if needed, allowing each side to cook for about 3-4 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.
- As the tofu is frying, prepare the Bang Bang sauce by combining mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, Sriracha sauce, soy sauce, and honey or agave syrup in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk these ingredients together until they create a smooth and creamy mixture. The balance of flavors here—spicy, sweet, and savory—makes this sauce truly addictive!
- Once the tofu is perfectly fried, use a slotted spoon to transfer the crispy pieces to a plate lined with paper towels. This will help absorb any excess oil. Allow the fried tofu to cool briefly, then transfer it to a large mixing bowl and pour the Bang Bang sauce over the top.
- Gently toss the tofu cubes in the sauce until they are well coated. Take your time with this step; you want each piece of tofu to be enveloped in that luscious sauce. Finally, serve the warm, coated tofu hot, garnished with freshly sliced green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for that lovely touch and crunch!
Notes
Use firm tofu for best results and ensure it’s well-pressed to remove moisture for a crispy finish.
