Creamy French Onion Chicken is a comforting yet elegant meal combining rustic flavors of French onion soup with tender chicken and rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked white rice
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) of French onion soup
  • 1 1/2 cans of water (use the empty soup can to measure)
  • 1/4 cup of butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 lb. chicken breast, cubed and boneless
  • 1 1/2 cups of Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1 packet (1 oz) of dry onion soup mix
  • 1 cup crispy French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and spread the uncooked white rice across the bottom of a 13×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cubed chicken with the French onion soup and water. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix over the top.
  3. Pour the chicken mixture over the rice in the baking pan and scatter the butter pieces on top.
  4. Add a layer of shredded Gruyere cheese and cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  5. Remove the foil, sprinkle crispy French fried onions on top, and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.

Notes

For a creamier texture, consider adding a splash of heavy cream before baking.
