Description

This delicious side dish features layers of creamy potatoes baked to perfection, finished with a golden cheese crust.


Ingredients

  • 3 lbs russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter, add garlic, and sauté. Then mix in heavy cream and milk, and add spices.
  4. Layer half the potato slices, drizzle with half the cream mixture, and sprinkle half the cheeses.
  5. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake for another 20 minutes or until golden.
  7. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

This dish can be prepared a day ahead of time and stored in the fridge before baking.
