Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in nuts and raisins if using.
- Pour the batter into a greased baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes.
- Let the cake cool in the baking dish for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
