Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). At the same time, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the mixture until it’s smooth and creamy.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a rectangle that is about 1/8-inch thick. Spread the prepared cream cheese filling evenly over half of the dough, leaving a small border.
- Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the folded pastry into strips that are about 1 inch wide. Take each strip and gently twist them before placing them on the prepared baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together. Brush the twisted pastries with the melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the twists.
- Bake in your preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until they are golden brown and have puffed up beautifully.
- Once baked, remove them from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes. Dust the warm pastry twists with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Store any leftover twists in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to restore flakiness.
