Cream Cheese Poppers

  • Author: Alioui
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 20 servings 1x

Description

Deliciously crispy and creamy snacks!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 green onions (finely chopped)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup milk or buttermilk
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Begin by creating the delicious cream cheese filling. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, finely chopped green onions, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Use a sturdy spatula or an electric mixer to blend the ingredients until they are smooth and well combined.
  2. Once the filling has been combined, cover the bowl with plastic wrap or transfer the mixture to an airtight container and let it chill in the refrigerator for about 15 to 20 minutes.
  3. After chilling, it’s time to shape your poppers. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, scoop out the filling and roll it into balls about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the shaped balls onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk (or buttermilk), flour, baking powder, a pinch of salt, and black pepper. Mix until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or pot to around 350°F. Once the oil is hot, take the chilled cheese balls and dip each one into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Carefully place the coated cheese balls into the hot oil in small batches.
  6. Once the poppers are golden and crispy, use a slotted spoon to carefully remove them from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess grease.

Notes

For best results, always chill the filling before shaping it into balls. This ensures they hold their shape when frying.
