- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup almond paste
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 egg + 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- 1/3 cup sliced almonds
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Optional: zest of 1/2 orange or lemon, 1–2 tablespoons apricot jam, pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the almond paste, granulated sugar, softened butter, egg yolk, and almond extract in a bowl.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface into a rectangle.
- Spread the almond filling down the center, fold the pastry, and seal edges.
- Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
- Score the top and bake for 20–25 minutes.
- Cool on a rack and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
