Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup almond paste
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 egg + 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Optional: zest of 1/2 orange or lemon, 1–2 tablespoons apricot jam, pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine the almond paste, granulated sugar, softened butter, egg yolk, and almond extract in a bowl.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface into a rectangle.
  4. Spread the almond filling down the center, fold the pastry, and seal edges.
  5. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
  6. Score the top and bake for 20–25 minutes.
  7. Cool on a rack and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
