  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8 or 9×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar using a mixer for about 2 to 3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Then add orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract, stirring until combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  5. Alternate mixing the dry ingredients and sour cream into the wet mixture until combined, being careful not to over-mix.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, checking doneness with a toothpick.
  7. Let cool in the pan for 10 to 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Mix powdered sugar with orange juice to make the glaze, and drizzle over the cooled cake.
