Description
A delicious low-carb alternative to traditional burgers, perfect for a light meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef, seasoned with salt and pepper
- Sturdy lettuce leaves (Iceberg or romaine)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Preferred toppings: diced tomato, sliced onions, pickles, cheese, avocado, etc.
Instructions
- To get started on your Lettuce Wrap Burgers, season the ground beef with a generous amount of salt and pepper. This basic seasoning will enhance the natural flavors of the beef without overpowering it. Divide the meat into equal portions based on how large you prefer your patties. Roll the portions into balls and then flatten them gently to form burger patties about 1 inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Once the pan is hot, carefully place the patties in the pan, ensuring there’s enough space between each one for even cooking. Allow them to cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side without disturbing them. Flip the patties and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until they reach your desired doneness.
- While your burger patties are cooking, take this opportunity to prepare the lettuce leaves. Choose a sturdy variety, such as Iceberg or Romaine, as these types will hold the burger without tearing. Rinse them under cold water, then lay them out on paper towels to dry completely.
- Once the patties are cooked to perfection, it’s time to assemble! Start by placing a cooked patty right in the center of a lettuce leaf. Add your favorite toppings like juicy tomato slices, crisp onions, crunchy pickles, a slice of cheese, or creamy avocado. Fold the edges of the lettuce leaf over the burger to create a wrap, and secure it with a toothpick if necessary.
Notes
Ensure your pan is hot enough to achieve a good sear; this adds flavor. Store any leftover patties separately from the lettuce for up to 3 days.
