- 1/2 cup heavy cream

- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp paprika (optional)
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Start by cooking the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. This usually involves bringing a large pot of water to boil, adding a pinch of salt, and letting the pasta cook until al dente. Once done, drain the pasta and set it aside.
- In another large pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Once melted, sprinkle in the all-purpose flour. Stir continuously until the mixture becomes a light golden color, forming a roux, which should take about 1-2 minutes.
- Gradually pour in the whole milk followed by the heavy cream, whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Bring this mixture to a simmer, during which you’ll notice it beginning to thicken slightly. This should take around 4-5 minutes.
- Once your sauce has thickened, add in the garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, Dijon mustard, and optional spices like paprika and cayenne pepper. Stir well to combine the flavors thoroughly.
- Reduce your stove’s heat to low and introduce the shredded sharp cheddar and mozzarella cheeses. Stir steadily until the cheese melts entirely, creating a smooth and creamy sauce.
- Finally, add the cooked macaroni to your cheesy mixture. Stir well to ensure each piece of pasta is evenly coated with the luscious sauce. Adjust any seasoning to suit your taste, then serve immediately.
