Description

If you are looking for a fresh and delightful appetizer that is both nutritious and satisfying, you need to try these scrumptious Salmon Balls with Avocado Sauce!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 g fresh salmon fillet, skin removed
  • 60 ml fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 60 ml fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 120 ml breadcrumbs or almond flour for gluten-free option
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 30 ml olive oil
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 60 ml fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 60 ml Greek yogurt or sour cream for a creamier texture
  • 30 ml lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by finely chopping the fresh salmon fillet. You can do this by hand with a sharp knife or pulse it in a food processor until it reaches a coarsely minced texture. This step enhances the overall flavor and allows the salmon to combine well with the other ingredients.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the minced salmon with chopped parsley and cilantro, breadcrumbs (or almond flour), egg, minced garlic, smoked paprika, lemon zest, salt, and pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix thoroughly until every ingredient is evenly incorporated, forming a cohesive mixture.
  3. Once the mixture is ready, portion it out and roll it into balls about 5 cm in diameter. You should end up with approximately 12-14 balls depending on how you size them. Place the salmon balls on a plate as you form them, making sure to keep enough space between each one.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat. Carefully arrange the salmon balls in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, turning them until they achieve a golden brown color and are cooked through. This step is crucial for developing that delicious crispy texture.
  5. While the salmon balls are cooking, you can prepare the avocado sauce. In a food processor, combine the ripe avocado, chopped cilantro, Greek yogurt (or sour cream), lime juice, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Blend everything until smooth and creamy, and adjust the seasoning according to your taste.
  6. Arrange the cooked salmon balls on a platter and serve them drizzled with the creamy avocado sauce or with the sauce on the side for dipping. These delightful bites can be enjoyed immediately or stored in the refrigerator for later use. Enjoy!

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh herbs and ingredients. Frozen salmon may not yield the same texture.
