Description

This Simple Banana Bread Syrup captures the delightful essence of banana bread in a wonderfully versatile form.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon banana extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by thoroughly mashing the ripe banana in a bowl until you achieve a smooth consistency with minimal lumps.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine your mashed banana with water, brown sugar, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the mixture is uniform.
  3. Place the saucepan on the stove over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for about 10 to 12 minutes.
  4. Once the syrup has thickened slightly, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the syrup through a fine mesh strainer into a heat-safe container.
  6. Let the syrup cool for about 10 to 15 minutes at room temperature.

Notes

Store any leftover syrup in the fridge and use within two weeks for best flavor.
