Description

This Soft Cheesy Onion Bread combines the rich flavors of caramelized onions and melted cheese for a truly irresistible treat.


Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium yellow onions, sliced
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water with sugar and active dry yeast. Stir gently and allow to sit for about 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, stir until combined, then knead in the olive oil for about 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  4. Caramelize onions in olive oil over medium heat for 20 to 30 minutes.
  5. Punch down the dough, roll it out, spread caramelized onions, and sprinkle cheese over it.
  6. Roll the dough up, place in a greased dish, and let rise again for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Ensure water is warm, not hot, to activate yeast. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
