Description
Southern Tea Cake Cookies are a classic treat that blend rich, buttery flavors with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (if needed)
Instructions
- Begin by placing the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl. With an electric mixer or a sturdy whisk, cream them together until the mixture becomes light and fluffy. Allow about 3-4 minutes for this step.
- Add the eggs to the creamed butter and sugar mixture, one at a time. Mix well after each egg and then add the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to your wet ingredients, stirring gently until a dough begins to form.
- Once your dough is ready, cover it and chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes.
- After the dough has chilled, scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll them into balls. Place them on a lined baking sheet and gently flatten each ball. Bake for 10-12 minutes.
- Once baked, let the cookies cool on a wire rack.
