Description
Tree Meringue Cookies are the epitome of festive delights!
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 large egg whites: Room temperature for better volume
- 1 cup fine granulated sugar: Provides sweetness and structure
- ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar: Stabilizes the meringue mixture
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract: Enhances flavor
- Sugar cookies: Round or shaped, to serve as the base for the meringue trees
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). This low baking temperature ensures that the meringue dries out slowly, maintaining that desired crispy texture. While the oven warms up, line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a clean, grease-free mixing bowl, add the room-temperature egg whites. Begin beating them on medium speed until they start to froth. Once frothy, sprinkle in the cream of tartar.
- As you continue to beat the egg whites, slowly incorporate the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time. After all the sugar is added, increase the mixer speed to high. Continue beating for about 5–7 minutes, until the meringue transforms into a glossy mixture and forms stiff peaks.
- Using a spatula, gently fold in the vanilla extract.
- Transfer the meringue mixture to a piping bag fitted with a star-shaped tip. Pipe the tree shapes directly onto the prepared sugar cookie bases.
- Once you have piped your meringue trees, place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake them for about 1.5 to 2 hours or until they feel firm and dry to the touch.
- After the baking time, turn off the oven and leave the door slightly ajar for cooling.
