  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Turkish Poached Apricots offer a touch of elegance to any meal, capturing the essence of traditional Turkish cuisine with their sweet and aromatic flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dried Turkish apricots
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios or walnuts
  • Clotted cream or thick yogurt, for serving

Instructions

  1. Start by thoroughly rinsing the dried Turkish apricots under cool running water. Place them in a bowl and soak them in warm water for about an hour.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine 1 1/4 cups of water with the granulated sugar, lemon juice, and a cinnamon stick. Stir occasionally and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. Once the syrup is simmering, drain the apricots and gently add them to the pan. Allow the apricots to simmer uncovered over low heat for 15–20 minutes until they become plump and tender.
  4. After removing the cinnamon stick, let the apricots cool in the syrup to continue soaking those delicious flavors.
  5. Serve the Israeli delights chilled or at room temperature, adorned with a dollop of clotted cream or yogurt and a sprinkle of extra nuts.

Notes

Avoid overcooking the apricots as they may become mushy. Aim for a gentle simmer, ensuring they keep their shape.
