Description
This Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is a simple yet extraordinary way to enhance your desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 to 4 tablespoons heavy cream or whole milk
- Pinch salt (optional)
Instructions
- Start by taking your butter out of the fridge ahead of time to allow it to soften to room temperature.
- In a large mixing bowl, use your electric mixer to beat the softened butter. Start mixing on a low speed and gradually increase to medium-high until the butter is fluffy and has turned a pale yellow in color, which should take about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Once your butter is fluffy, it’s time to add the powdered sugar. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, about one cup at a time, mixing at a low speed.
- After all the sugar is mixed in, pour in the vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream (or whole milk). Mix on medium speed until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
- Next, increase your mixer speed to high and whip the frosting for an additional 2 to 3 minutes.
- Give your frosting a taste. If it leans towards being too sweet for your liking, a pinch of salt can balance the flavors beautifully.
Notes
Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Before using it, allow it to come to room temperature and re-whip for best results.
