Description
Hamburger Steaks are more than just a meal; they’re an experience of culinary comfort that resonates with everyone who tastes them.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Start by preparing your beef patties. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the ground beef, chopped onion, egg, and breadcrumbs. Season the mixture with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix everything thoroughly. Make sure all ingredients are well integrated into the beef.
- Once your beef mixture is ready, divide it into four equal parts. Form each portion into a patty shape, ensuring they are roughly the same size and thickness, which will help them to cook evenly. Place the formed patties on a plate while you heat your skillet.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, gently place the patties into the skillet. Cook each side for about 5–6 minutes. The goal is to achieve a delicious crust on both sides while ensuring the center is fully cooked. Once done, remove the patties and set them aside.
- In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add flour to the melted butter, stirring continuously. Allow the mixture to cook for about 1–2 minutes until it becomes golden brown. Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring no lumps form, and allow the mixture to simmer for 3–4 minutes until it thickens. Add Worcestershire sauce, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Return the cooked hamburger steaks to the skillet nestling them in the gravy. Spoon the luscious gravy over the patties and let them heat through for another 2–3 minutes, ensuring they are warm throughout.
Notes
Chill your patties in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before cooking to help them maintain their shape. Don’t overcrowd the skillet; cook in batches if necessary to maintain heat level and achieve the perfect sear.
