Ingredients

  • 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 ½ cups (297g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ⅛ tsp almond extract
  • Red and green sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350ºF (177ºC) to prepare for baking. In a small bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture. Beat until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Using a cookie scoop, portion out the dough and roll into balls. Roll in sanding sugar and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are set; cool before transferring to a wire rack.
