- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
- 4 large egg whites, room temp
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Green food coloring (optional)
- Edible glitter or sprinkles, for decorating
- Sugar cookies or biscuit bases (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine egg whites and cream of tartar, then whip until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar until stiff peaks are achieved. Fold in vanilla and food coloring.
- Pipe the meringue into tree shapes on the baking sheet.
- Decorate with edible glitter or sprinkles.
- Bake for 1½ to 2 hours until dry and crisp. Keep the oven door slightly ajar to cool.
- If desired, secure each tree to a cookie base with melted chocolate or icing.
- Serve or pack them as gifts.
Notes
Ensure all equipment is clean and dry. Meringue can be made in advance and stored in an airtight container.
