- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (1.75 oz) package fruit pectin
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by peeling, coring, and finely chopping the tart apples into small, uniform pieces. Toss with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- In a saucepan, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, water, and salt over medium heat, stirring until a golden caramel forms (5-7 minutes).
- Add chopped apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and optional cloves, stirring until apples soften.
- Bring to a rolling boil, stir in fruit pectin, and boil for one minute.
- Remove from heat, add vanilla extract, and check if jam is set.
- Pour hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch space at the top, seal, and cool.
Notes
Store any unused jam in the refrigerator for up to three weeks or process in a water bath canner for long-term storage.
