Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Food coloring (yellow, orange, red)

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to the butter mixture.
  4. Divide the dough into three portions and color each with food coloring.
  5. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), roll out colored dough, and cut out shapes.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
  8. Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
