Ingredients

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Food coloring (yellow, orange, red)
Instructions
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add to the butter mixture.
- Divide the dough into three portions and color each with food coloring.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C), roll out colored dough, and cut out shapes.
- Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes until lightly golden.
- Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough is essential to prevent cookies from spreading during baking.
