Description

Creating your own pizza at home is a delightful experience, especially when you have a foolproof pizza dough recipe like this one.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the yeast mixture. In a small bowl, combine the warm water with the active dry yeast and the sugar. Stir it gently and then let it sit for about 5 minutes. You should see it become frothy, indicating that the yeast is activated and ready to work its magic.
  2. While the yeast is activating, grab a large mixing bowl and measure out 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour along with the salt. Whisk them together to evenly distribute the salt throughout the flour.
  3. After the yeast has foamed, create a well in the center of your flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture and drizzle in the olive oil. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture until a dough begins to form.
  4. If your dough feels sticky, don’t worry! Just sprinkle a bit more flour into the bowl, a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. You want it to be smooth and manageable without being too dry.
  5. Now it’s time to knead the dough. Turn it out onto a floured surface and sprinkle a little flour on top. Begin kneading it with your hands for about 5-7 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when it becomes elastic and springs back when you poke it.
  6. Once kneaded, form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. This is the perfect time to preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  7. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide it into two equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll out each piece into your desired thickness. You can go for a thin crust or a thicker style based on your preference.
  8. Finally, it’s time to add your favorite toppings! Once assembled, bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. You’ll want to keep an eye on them; look for a golden crust and bubbling cheese to know they’re ready!
