Description
Creating your own pizza at home is a delightful experience, especially when you have a foolproof pizza dough recipe like this one.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/45°C)
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
Instructions
- Start by preparing the yeast mixture. In a small bowl, combine the warm water with the active dry yeast and the sugar. Stir it gently and then let it sit for about 5 minutes. You should see it become frothy, indicating that the yeast is activated and ready to work its magic.
- While the yeast is activating, grab a large mixing bowl and measure out 3 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour along with the salt. Whisk them together to evenly distribute the salt throughout the flour.
- After the yeast has foamed, create a well in the center of your flour mixture. Pour in the yeast mixture and drizzle in the olive oil. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture until a dough begins to form.
- If your dough feels sticky, don’t worry! Just sprinkle a bit more flour into the bowl, a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. You want it to be smooth and manageable without being too dry.
- Now it’s time to knead the dough. Turn it out onto a floured surface and sprinkle a little flour on top. Begin kneading it with your hands for about 5-7 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when it becomes elastic and springs back when you poke it.
- Once kneaded, form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in a warm environment for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size. This is the perfect time to preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air. Divide it into two equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll out each piece into your desired thickness. You can go for a thin crust or a thicker style based on your preference.
- Finally, it’s time to add your favorite toppings! Once assembled, bake the pizzas in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. You’ll want to keep an eye on them; look for a golden crust and bubbling cheese to know they’re ready!
