Description
A rich, savory sauce that enhances the flavor of any beef dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups beef broth or stock
- 1/2 cup prime rib drippings
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup red wine (optional)
- 1 clove garlic, minced or 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped shallots or onions
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
- 1 sprig thyme or rosemary (optional)
Instructions
- After your prime rib has finished roasting, pour the drippings into a fat separator and reserve about 1/4 to 1/2 cup of the flavorful liquid.
- Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Sauté chopped shallots or onions until soft and translucent. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Pour in red wine to deglaze the pan, scraping up any bits stuck at the bottom. Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Add beef broth and reserved drippings, stir, and bring to a gentle boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until flavors concentrate and sauce thickens.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt to taste. Add fresh herbs if desired.
- Optionally, strain through a fine mesh sieve for a silky-smooth sauce.
- Off the heat, swirl in butter for a glossy sheen and enriched flavor.
- Serve hot alongside slices of prime rib or as a dipping sauce.
