Description
Poached pears are a versatile and undeniably elegant dessert, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 firm, ripe pears (such as Bosc or Anjou)
- 3 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 whole cloves
- Peel from 1 orange
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar along with the cinnamon stick, cloves, orange peel, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Stir the mixture gently and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.
- As the syrup is heating, take your prepared pears and peel them carefully, leaving the stems intact for an elegant presentation. If desired, core the pears from the bottom.
- Once the syrup is simmering, gently place your peeled pears into the pot, ensuring they are fully submerged in the liquid. Let them simmer for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove the poached pears from the saucepan and set them aside to cool slightly. Strain the syrup to remove the spices and return it to the saucepan to reduce it.
- Finally, serve the poached pears warm or let them cool in the syrup before serving.
Notes
Let the poached pears cool in the syrup to deepen their flavor.
