Ingredients

  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg (lightly beaten)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted & cooled)
  • ½ tsp almond extract (or vanilla)
  • ½ cup Christmas sprinkles (jimmies – not nonpareils)

For the glaze, gather the following:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
  • 3 tbsp buttermilk (plus more as needed)
  • 1 tbsp light corn syrup
  • Christmas nonpareils (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your loaf pan. Lightly grease a 9×5 loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy release after baking.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and kosher salt. Make sure there are no clumps.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, beaten egg, melted butter, and almond extract. Whisk them until well combined.
  4. Carefully pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined, then fold in the Christmas sprinkles.
  5. Pour the mixed batter into your prepared loaf pan. Bake in the preheated oven for around 45 to 50 minutes.
  6. While the bread cools, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, buttermilk, and corn syrup until thick but pourable.
