Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the middle, pour in yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until shaggy dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Punch down dough, divide into 8 pieces, flatten, add mozzarella, shape into knots.
  5. Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle garlic mixture on top, place on a baking sheet, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

You can freeze these before baking and cook directly from frozen, adding extra baking time.
