Description

Savory, simple, and packed with flavor this one-pan wonder is the perfect solution for busy weeknights when you want something hearty, healthy, and satisfying without spending hours in the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 pound ground beef

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 onion, chopped

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • ½ cup feta cheese, crumbled

  • ¼ cup fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

Before you start cooking, gather and prepare all your ingredients.
Chop the onion finely and mince the garlic.
Wash and chop the fresh spinach into smaller pieces, so it wilts quickly when added to the pan.
Measure out your oregano, paprika, and crumbled feta cheese.
Having everything prepped ahead makes cooking much smoother and more enjoyable!

Step 2: Heat the Olive Oil

Place a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat.
Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and let it heat up until it shimmers slightly.
Olive oil not only prevents sticking but also adds a wonderful, slightly fruity flavor that complements the beef and spinach beautifully.

Step 3: Cook the Onion and Garlic

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the heated oil.
Stir frequently and sauté for about 3–4 minutes, until the onions become translucent and the garlic is fragrant.
This foundational step builds deep flavor into the dish right from the beginning.

Step 4: Brown the Ground Beef

Push the onions and garlic to the sides of the skillet and add the ground beef to the center.
Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break up the beef into smaller pieces.
Cook for about 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned all over.
If your beef releases a lot of fat, drain the excess fat carefully but leave just a little to keep the dish moist and flavorful.

Step 5: Add Spinach and Spices

Once the beef is browned, add the chopped spinach directly to the skillet.
It may seem like a lot at first, but spinach wilts down quickly!
Sprinkle the dried oregano, paprika, salt, and pepper over the beef and spinach.
Mix everything together thoroughly and cook for another 3–4 minutes, until the spinach is fully wilted and the flavors have melded together.

Step 6: Finish with Feta and Parsley

Remove the skillet from the heat.
Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese evenly over the top of the beef and spinach mixture.
Feta adds a tangy, salty richness that elevates the entire dish.
Top with a generous handful of freshly chopped parsley for a bright, herbaceous finish.

Step 7: Serve and Enjoy!

Spoon the savory mixture onto plates and serve hot.
It’s fantastic on its own, but it also pairs wonderfully with crusty bread, rice, or even quinoa for a more substantial meal.

Notes

  • Use Lean Ground Beef: If possible, opt for 85% lean ground beef. It strikes the perfect balance between flavor and lower fat content.

  • Customize Your Spices: Feel free to add a pinch of red pepper flakes if you like a little heat, or a squeeze of lemon juice for a touch of brightness.

  • Fresh vs. Frozen Spinach: Fresh spinach is ideal for texture, but if using frozen spinach, make sure to thaw and squeeze out excess water to avoid a soggy dish.

  • Make it a Full Meal: Stir in cooked quinoa or brown rice directly into the skillet for a hearty one-dish dinner.
