Description
This Heavenly Homemade Lasagna is a comforting meal that delivers delicious layers of flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 lasagna noodles (oven-ready or boiled)
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 28 oz crushed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 large egg
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Begin your Heavenly Homemade Lasagna by heating the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is shimmering, add the finely chopped yellow onion. Sauté the onions for about five minutes, or until they become translucent. The aroma will start to fill your kitchen, making it a pleasurable experience. After the onions are ready, stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
- Now that you have a beautiful base, it’s time to add the ground beef to the skillet. Brown the meat, stirring occasionally until it’s fully cooked. Drain any excess fat from the skillet. Next, stir in the tomato paste and crushed tomatoes, followed by the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat and let it gently simmer uncovered for around 25 to 30 minutes.
- While the sauce is simmering, take a mixing bowl and combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare the baking dish by lightly greasing it. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of your baking dish. Next, layer lasagna noodles, followed by a generous layer of the ricotta mixture, meat sauce, mozzarella, and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used.
- Cover the baking dish with foil, spraying the underside with cooking spray. Bake for 25 minutes. After this time, carefully remove the foil and let it bake for an additional 20 to 25 minutes, or until it bubbles and turns golden brown.
- Once pulled from the oven, let your heavenly creation rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
Notes
To prevent a dry lasagna, ensure that you include plenty of sauce between the layers.
