Description

A delightful treat to celebrate love with sweet heart-shaped doughnuts.


Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ½ cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • Optional Toppings & Fillings: Melted chocolate for dipping, sprinkles for decoration, jam or custard for filling

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast and let sit until frothy.
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla
  3. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
  5. Roll out and cut into heart shapes; let them rise again for 30 mins.
  6. Fry doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes each side.
  7. Coat warm doughnuts in sugar before serving.

Notes

Consider using a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for frying.
