Ingredients

- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm milk (110°F / 45°C)
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- ½ cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- Optional Toppings & Fillings: Melted chocolate for dipping, sprinkles for decoration, jam or custard for filling
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and sugar; sprinkle yeast and let sit until frothy.
- Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture, eggs, butter, and vanilla
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1-1.5 hours until doubled.
- Roll out and cut into heart shapes; let them rise again for 30 mins.
- Fry doughnuts in hot oil until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes each side.
- Coat warm doughnuts in sugar before serving.
Notes
Consider using a thermometer to maintain oil temperature for frying.
