Description
Delicious, gooey brownies with a pretzel crust and caramel swirls.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups crushed pretzels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup thick caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
- Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by combining crushed pretzels, melted butter, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir until the pretzels are thoroughly coated. Evenly press this mixture into the bottom of your prepared 9×13-inch baking pan to form a solid crust. Bake this in your preheated oven for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until it reaches a light golden hue, then allow it to cool slightly.
- While the crust is cooling, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, remove the saucepan from the heat and mix in the granulated sugar, well-beaten eggs, and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually incorporate this dry mixture into the wet mixture until just combined, then gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Pour the brownie batter over your pre-baked pretzel crust, spreading it evenly. Dollop the thick caramel sauce atop and use a knife to gently swirl it through the batter. This not only incorporates the caramel but also creates a beautiful marbled effect.
- Return the assembled creation to the oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. You’ll know the brownies are ready when a toothpick inserted comes out with only a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep the brownies moist and fudgy.
- Once done, allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan. Before serving, drizzle additional caramel sauce over the top, and if desired, sprinkle some flaky sea salt for that extra punch of flavor. Slice them into pieces and serve to your eager crowd!
Notes
Store the brownies in an airtight container for up to a week, or freeze them for longer shelf life.
