  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 1 batch 1x

Description

This Brown Butter Cake Frosting is a delicious and luxurious upgrade from traditional buttercream, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 to cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the unsalted butter into even pieces to ensure uniform melting. Place the butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly to prevent burning. Remove from heat once it turns golden brown.
  2. Pour the browned butter into a heatproof bowl and allow to cool to room temperature.
  3. Whip the cooled browned butter at medium speed for 2-3 minutes until creamy and light in color.
  4. Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until spreadable.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract and salt.
  6. Add heavy cream or milk and continue mixing until light and fluffy.
  7. Give the frosting a final whip until it reaches the perfect texture.

Notes

Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
