Homemade Honey Buns

  • Author: Alioui
  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 buns 1x

Description

A delectable blend of flavors and textures that make breakfast feel like a celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Begin by dissolving the active dry yeast in a bowl of warm milk. Allow this mixture to sit for about five minutes until it becomes foamy, signaling that the yeast is activated and ready to work its magic on the dough.
  2. Into the yeast mixture, stir in the granulated sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a dough begins to form.
  3. Transfer the dough to a flour-dusted surface and knead for six to eight minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover it, and allow it to rise for an hour or until it has doubled in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, combine the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  5. Once risen, roll out the dough into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the softened butter across it, sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly, and drizzle with honey.
  6. Roll the dough tightly, forming a log. Slice into 1-inch pieces to form individual buns.
  7. Place these slices into a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the buns for 20 to 25 minutes until they’re golden brown on top.

Notes

Ensure your dough rises in a warm environment and ensure uniform slices for even baking.
