  • Author: Alioui

  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

Crispy, savory, and utterly irresistible, onion ring chips are the snack you never knew you needed—but one you’ll quickly find on constant rotation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large onions, sliced into ¼-inch rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Begin by adding your vegetable oil to a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot, heating it to a consistent temperature of 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, blend your flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper thoroughly.
  3. Prepare three separate bowls for the dipping process: one with buttermilk, the second with your flour blend, and the third with panko breadcrumbs.
  4. Take an onion ring and submerge it in the buttermilk, then dredge it in the spiced flour mixture, dip it again in the buttermilk, and finally press it into the panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Carefully lower your coated rings into the hot oil, frying in small batches for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Once fried to perfection, transfer the onion ring chips to a layer of paper towels to quickly absorb any excess oil.

Notes

Ensure your onion slices are even to promote uniform cooking. Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
