Description

Pretzel Bottom Caramel Brownies are the delicious result of a love affair between classic brownies and the crave-worthy combination of sweet and salty.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup thick caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing the pretzel crust, the foundation of these brownies. In a bowl, mix together the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and brown sugar until well combined. Firmly press this mixture into the bottom of your lined baking pan to create an even layer.
  2. Place the pan in your preheated oven to bake for about 8–10 minutes. Keep an eye out for a lightly golden color, which indicates readiness. Once done, remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
  3. While your crust cools, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, remove the pan from heat and stir in granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gently incorporate this dry mixture into the wet mixture, ensuring it’s fully combined. For a delightful texture, fold in chocolate chips sparingly.
  4. Pour the prepared brownie batter over the cooled pretzel crust, spreading it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of caramel sauce over the brownie layer. Using a knife, gently swirl the caramel into the batter for alluring patterns in each slice.
  5. Return your creation to the oven, baking for 30–35 minutes. Use a toothpick to check doneness—look for it to come out with a few moist crumbs to ensure a perfectly fudgy center.
  6. After baking, allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts. Finish by drizzling additional caramel over the brownies and, if desired, a sprightly sprinkle of flaky sea salt for extra flair.

Notes

All ingredients should be at room temperature for better blending and texture. Use a flat-bottomed glass to press the pretzel crust evenly without gaps.
