Description
Pretzel Bottom Caramel Brownies are the delicious result of a love affair between classic brownies and the crave-worthy combination of sweet and salty.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups crushed pretzels
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup thick caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
- Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Begin by preparing the pretzel crust, the foundation of these brownies. In a bowl, mix together the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and brown sugar until well combined. Firmly press this mixture into the bottom of your lined baking pan to create an even layer.
- Place the pan in your preheated oven to bake for about 8–10 minutes. Keep an eye out for a lightly golden color, which indicates readiness. Once done, remove from the oven and allow it to cool slightly.
- While your crust cools, melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, remove the pan from heat and stir in granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gently incorporate this dry mixture into the wet mixture, ensuring it’s fully combined. For a delightful texture, fold in chocolate chips sparingly.
- Pour the prepared brownie batter over the cooled pretzel crust, spreading it evenly. Drop spoonfuls of caramel sauce over the brownie layer. Using a knife, gently swirl the caramel into the batter for alluring patterns in each slice.
- Return your creation to the oven, baking for 30–35 minutes. Use a toothpick to check doneness—look for it to come out with a few moist crumbs to ensure a perfectly fudgy center.
- After baking, allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing to ensure clean cuts. Finish by drizzling additional caramel over the brownies and, if desired, a sprightly sprinkle of flaky sea salt for extra flair.
Notes
All ingredients should be at room temperature for better blending and texture. Use a flat-bottomed glass to press the pretzel crust evenly without gaps.
