Ingredients

- 1 cup warm whole milk (105–110°F)
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- To begin, activate the yeast by combining warm milk and granulated sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle the yeast and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt, then whisk until combined.
- Mix in flour until a slightly tacky dough forms, then knead for 6-8 minutes.
- Place in a greased bowl to rise for 30-45 minutes until doubled in size.
- Punch down, divide into 9-12 portions, and shape into rolls.
- Arrange in a greased baking pan and let rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- Bake at 375°F for 18-22 minutes until golden brown.
- Brush tops with melted butter before serving.
Notes
Best results with warm milk—not hot; add milk if dough is crumbly; cover rolls to keep moist.
