Description
This dish represents the epitome of Southern comfort food, blending seasoned beef patties with an indulgently rich and savory onion gravy.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb Ground Beef (80/20 blend provides optimum juiciness and flavor)
- 1 large Egg (acts as a binder)
- ⅓ cup Bread Crumbs (choose panko or regular)
- 1 tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Black Pepper
- ½ tsp Onion Powder
- 1 Garlic Clove, minced
- 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce (for that umami kick)
- 1½ cups Onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp All-Purpose Flour (to thicken the gravy)
- 1 cup Beef Broth
- 1 tbsp Oil (for cooking)
- Optional: Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, blend ground beef with egg, bread crumbs, salt, black pepper, onion powder, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side until browned and fully cooked. Add sliced onions to the skillet to caramelize alongside patties.
- Remove patties and keep warm. Sprinkle flour over onions and stir. Whisk in beef broth and simmer for about 5 minutes until thickened.
- Return patties to skillet, spoon gravy over them, and let meld for 15 minutes on low heat.
- Serve hot with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
Notes
Ensure the beef patties reach an internal temperature of 160°F for safe consumption. To intensify the gravy’s flavor, consider using homemade beef broth.
