Indulge in the delightful flavors of our Smoked Salmon Cheese Log, a shining star on any appetizer table!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tbsp capers, chopped
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 6–8 oz thin smoked salmon slices
- Crackers, baguette slices, or cucumber rounds
- Optional: lemon wedges and dill sprigs for garnish
Instructions
- Start by preparing the cheese mixture that will serve as the heart of our appetizer. In a mixing bowl, combine 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup of sour cream. Add in the chopped dill, garlic powder, chopped capers, and the zest of one lemon. Using a spatula or electric mixer, blend the ingredients until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. This mixture should be richly flavored, aromatic, and easy to spread. The balance of the sour cream and cream cheese will give it a nice tang, complementing the smokiness of the salmon.
- Once your filling is ready, it’s time to shape it. Lay out a large piece of plastic wrap on your countertop. Spoon the cheese mixture onto the plastic wrap, forming it into a log shape. Using the edges of the plastic wrap, carefully roll the mixture into a tight log. Twist the ends of the plastic wrap to secure the shape, making sure there are no gaps. This log now needs to chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour. Chilling not only firms up the log, making it easier to handle but also allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.
- After the cheese log has chilled, it’s time to wrap it in the alluring smoked salmon. Take a fresh piece of plastic wrap and lay out the thin salmon slices, overlapping them slightly to create a seamless sheet. Unwrap your cheese log and place it right in the center of the salmon. Carefully use the plastic wrap to lift and roll the salmon around the log, ensuring it is completely encased in the rich, smoky layer. Tightly seal the log in the plastic wrap once again and refrigerate for an additional 30 minutes. This final chilling helps the salmon adhere to the log, making it easier to slice and serve later.
Notes
Make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature to ensure a smooth mixture.
