Thai Basil Beef Rolls

  • Author: Alioui
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

These rolls are a flavorful masterpiece incorporating tender beef slices, fresh herbs, and crunchy vegetables, all wrapped snugly in a rice paper wrapper.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 12 rice paper wrappers
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 medium cucumber, julienned
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing a flavorful marinade for your beef. In a small bowl, mix together the fish sauce, soy sauce, lime juice, brown sugar, minced garlic, and red chili flakes. Ensure the sugar dissolves well to form a balanced blend of sweet and savory. Add the thinly sliced flank steak to the marinade, ensuring each piece is thoroughly coated. Let the beef sit for 10–15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef slices and sear them for approximately 3–4 minutes. You want the beef to brown and develop a savory crust while cooked through. Once done, let the beef rest and cool slightly. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.
  3. Prepare a shallow dish filled with warm water. Take each rice paper wrapper and dip it into the water for about 5–10 seconds. The paper should become soft and pliable but not overly wet, so it doesn’t rip during assembly. Place them gently on a clean work surface.
  4. Lay a softened rice paper on your cutting board. In the center, arrange a few basil leaves, cilantro, julienned cucumber, carrot, red bell pepper slices, and a portion of the cooked beef. To wrap, fold the sides inward, covering the filling slightly. Then, roll the paper tightly from the bottom up, just like rolling a burrito. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
  5. Once all rolls are assembled, arrange them neatly on a serving platter. Pair them with your choice of dipping sauce, such as a lime-fish sauce blend, peanut sauce, or a soy-based alternative for an extra punch of flavor.

Notes

Ensure your steak is cut against the grain for enhanced tenderness.
