  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Gel food coloring (pink and blue)
  • Cotton candy flavoring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) so it’s nice and hot when your cookies are ready to bake. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a larger bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until fluffy and light.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and buttermilk into the creamed butter and sugar mixture.
  5. Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the bowl of wet ingredients. Stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened.
  6. Divide the dough into two equal parts. Add a few drops of pink gel food coloring to one portion, and blue to the other. Mix until each is evenly colored.
  7. Take a bit of each colored dough, roll them together gently to form balls, and place them on your prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake your cookies in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges gain a slight golden hue.
  9. After baking, let the cookies rest on the baking sheet for a few minutes to firm up, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the cookie dough for 20-30 minutes before baking to enhance the cookies’ shape and prevent over-spreading.
