Ingredients

  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 3 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 cucumber, sliced
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp Korean BBQ sauce (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the marinade by whisking together the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. Ensure the brown sugar is dissolved.
  2. Slice the flank steak against the grain, coat it in the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Prepare your vegetables by slicing the cucumber and bell pepper, and shredding the carrots.
  4. Cook your rice using a rice cooker or stovetop according to package instructions, keeping it warm.
  5. Heat cooking oil in a pan and sear the marinated steak in batches for 2-3 minutes per side until browned.
  6. Simmer the remaining marinade in a saucepan until it thickens slightly.
  7. Assemble the bowls with rice, steak, and arranged vegetables, drizzling the thickened marinade over top.
  8. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, adding extra Korean BBQ sauce if desired.
