Description

Korean Chicken Bao Buns offer a delicious, interactive dining experience filled with crispy chicken and fluffy buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large chicken thighs
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup oil for frying
  • 4 bao buns
  • 2 tablespoons gochujang
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons green onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Start by cutting the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces. It’s crucial to pat them dry thoroughly to ensure a crispy finish when frying. Season the cut pieces lightly with salt and pepper for flavor, and then coat them evenly with cornstarch.
  2. Heat oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them once they are fried and drain excess oil.
  3. In another pan, combine gochujang, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
  4. Add the crispy fried chicken to the cooked sauce and toss well to coat every piece. Steam the bao buns until they become soft and fluffy.
  5. Serve by filling each bun with saucy chicken pieces, topped with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.

Notes

Ensure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
