Description
Korean Chicken Bao Buns offer a delicious, interactive dining experience filled with crispy chicken and fluffy buns.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large chicken thighs
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup oil for frying
- 4 bao buns
- 2 tablespoons gochujang
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons green onions
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions
- Start by cutting the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces. It’s crucial to pat them dry thoroughly to ensure a crispy finish when frying. Season the cut pieces lightly with salt and pepper for flavor, and then coat them evenly with cornstarch.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove them once they are fried and drain excess oil.
- In another pan, combine gochujang, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Add the crispy fried chicken to the cooked sauce and toss well to coat every piece. Steam the bao buns until they become soft and fluffy.
- Serve by filling each bun with saucy chicken pieces, topped with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
Notes
Ensure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to achieve a crispy texture.
