Description

This Salisbury Steak recipe is a delightful and comforting meal, perfect for any dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef with breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, an egg, Worcestershire sauce, as well as salt and black pepper. Mix them together gently, ensuring all components are well incorporated yet not overworked to keep the meat tender.
  2. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each one into an oval patty.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high warmth. Cook each side until browned, approximately 4 to 5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Using the same skillet, melt the butter before adding the sliced mushrooms. Sauté until browned, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and continue to cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the cooked mushrooms and mix thoroughly. Gradually pour in the beef broth, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens into a gravy.
  6. Return the patties to the skillet, simmer in the gravy for about 10 minutes until cooked through.

Notes

Be gentle when mixing and shaping to avoid tough patties. For deeper flavor, add a splash of red wine to the mushroom gravy while simmering.
